December 3, 2008



And this is up at the rim of the volcano just outside Toluca - Mexico's highest city. By the time we reached the rim we were nearing 15,000 feet and oxygen was scarce...we were elated to have made it though so hardly noticed that we couldn't breathe :) The trip down was way easier than the trip up!!! You'll notice that I'm not wearing a jacket. It was on this trip that Lynda was taking pictures of me with others making the climb in their full winter gear. The breeze (yes, you can see that it's pretty breezy up there) was a little chilly but the sun was hot - we were pretty close to it after all :)

If you look closely between us you can see one of the two lakes that is nestled in the hole of the top of the volcano. It's just like you'd imagine the top of a volcano to be after it's exploded a few times.....a really deep hole going down from the rim and the outside of the volcano is a perfect volcano shape...like the ones you drew in elementary school.
