Well, I've been back to work for just one day (albeit one very looonnnngggg day) and am ready for another vacation :) I am rapidly moving into a state of something in between excitement and trepidation as departure day moves ever nearer.
From setting up my automated bill payments to take me through January 2009 and fitting 27 lunches into 14 days (well .... that's not too hard of a task I guess) to working ahead in the office while trying to finish the first edit of mom's book before I leave - life is busy and full. It's all good though and I have no complaints. I figure at this rate....I'll deserve my 10 weeks in a hammock :)
Just two weeks left to go now - the race is on.....

"HOT WATER AND LEMON IN A BOWL" shouts the waiter as the ship's bell behind the bar is rung at Rodney's Oyster House in Yaletown tonight. I will be back to dine in this restaurant again!! Happy Hour is from 3-6 on Monday through Saturday and what a great way to get some amazing food at reasonable prices. They also have a Ceasar that they call a Zydeco something or other that is like no other Ceasar I've ever had. I'm actually not certain what they did to it but whatever it was....it tasted like more :) Finished a great meal with a shot of espresso vodka over ice and a cup of coffee as a chaser. Life is good!
Rodney's was our 1/2 way stop along the walk to GM Place to see the Celine Dione concert tonight and what a concert it was!! She belted out some of her best to a sold out house and during her costume changes she had a troupe of dancers who, according to the Host working at our gate, were better than the ones she had seen in Celine's show in Vegas. From the moment it began with the opening act of impersonator/comedian, Gordie Brown, to the final encore of My Heart Will Go On; it was a powerful show and she is an amazing performer!
The weather in Vancouver was perfect again today - I can't believe our luck!! The sun shone all day and although a jacket was probably a good idea there were a lot of people who didn't bother to wear theirs today.
In addition to putting over 15,000 steps on my pedometer, we checked out the inside of the Edgewater Casino and made a little donation while we were there. On the upside..... we had lots of fun in the process :)
Walking along the sea wall here has been unbelievable. With the weather being so good but with fall definitely in the air, the trees are all changing colour and everything is soooo gorgeous. It's times like this that Vancouver get it's reputation for being one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Watching George on The Hour tonight and have to think of something to do so I can commit online to his initiative of one million acts of green....David Suzuki and Alanis Morriset are speaking in support of the environment on his show tonight so it's a motivational program. Good job George!
Will be heading home tomorrow and am hopeful that the roads are good. While in the line up at GM Place tonight the people in front of us were from Kelowna and said that the Coquihalla was closed yesterday due to whiteout conditions.....hopefully it'll all be cleaned up ..... if not....we'll be looking at the Hope Princeton.
Till next time....

I am the luckiest person ever!!! The icing on the cake that was another great day in this beautiful city was a free taxi home after the theatre tonight.
Our day began watching the rain fall outside the windows of the 27th floor.....not looking so good at that point....but by the time we were down to the road and on our way again the sun was shining and not a raindrop in sight. :-)
First stop was probably the nicest Starbucks I've ever seen....it was huge in comparison to most with a new park right outside the doors. And of course....the macchiato was brewed to perfection again.
From there we were off to do a little shopping. We both had a little luck in that department (well, Carolyn had a little more than me).....
Back to shower and prep for the theatre - Carolyn's condo is in such a perfect location!!
Tried to go to Fiddlehead Joe's for dinner but unfortunately Monday is the day they close in the off season so a quick change of plans took us to the Back Stage Pub on Granville Island for drinks, dinner and a great view of a rainbow over the city scape (including Carolyn's condo).
The play was the History Boys and boy are we proud of all of those boys for getting into Oxford!! :) Seriously though....what a great play. Very clever with loads of thought provoking script about timeless issues. The set changes were brilliant, the performances were fabulous and the venue was perfect. There was a scene near the end of the play where the boys all sing Bye Bye Blackbird acapella that brought tears to my eyes.
After the play we queued up for a cab and as luck would have it the people right in front of us in the line up were also going to Yaletown area so we shared a cab and they wouldn't let us pay for it at all....they were in Vancouver for their son's wedding. They live in Toronto and wanted us to know that some people from Ontario are really very nice...and these ones definitely were.
All in all.....another great day in the city :)

1495 Richards St, Vancouver BC - what a great condo!!
Carolyn and I arrived yesterday afternoon and haven't stopped since. Over 13,000 steps yesterday and more than 15,000 today tells the tale to anyone who counts their steps :)
Last night we saw the new movie, Body of Lies starring Leo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe. Definitely thought provoking if anyone is thinking about seeing it. Gotta love going to the movies in Vancouver!! Went to the theatre on Burrard again (Scotia Theatre) - what a treat....to be able to see over the head of the person in front of you because it's down by your knees and to have a seat so comfortable that you almost feel like you're at home on your own couch. Last time we were in Van we went to that same theatre to see Mama Mia - now that was a GREAT show!!
Dinner last night at Tequila Kitchen was awesome. Yaletown has so many great restaurants and we sure found one of them last night! Not only was the food scrumptious - the margaritas were even better :) So good in fact that we had to try one of each kind!! Yum Yum!!
Today we went to Stanley Park and the Aquarium - what a great aquarium!! They have some excellent displays and learning opportunities. After the aquarium we decided that it was a perfect opportunity to regress to childhood and so.....got tickets for the Hallowe'en Train. What fun!! The last time I was on that train was many many years ago. I actually remember riding it as a little girl so it was kind of like a "flashback". Some good Hallowe'en decorations along the route and lots of kids in costume having loads of fun. While waiting for the train we decided to visit the petting zoo and what a treat we found there!! One of the little goats had just given birth a couple of hours previously so we were able to see a brand new baby. He was just barely up on this feet and wobbling around their stall.
Vancouver is such a beautiful city!! We've had blue skies since we arrived and the view from the 27th floor in the condo is so gorgeous looking out over the ocean and the marina with the city lights twinkling in the evening. The location of Carolyn's place at the bottom of Richards St is absolutely perfect. Close to everything but with a park and the sea wall right outside the door - it's like you're not in the city at all. There are so many green spaces and trees in this city - I love it.
Tomorrow night we're going to see History Boys (the play) at Granville Island Theatre and the next night it'll be Celine Dionne at GM Place. How lucky am I??!! My pre holiday holiday is perfect :)
Better sign off for today....so....till next time.....

Well....I see that I have four followers on this blog now :-) Welcome to my techno space.
This week has flown by. I wonder if having a shortened week due to a stat is really a treat or if we still somehow manage to fit five days work into four..... my next week will be brutal too as I'm only in the office on Thursday and Friday. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be great though as I'm off to see Celine Dionne in concert in Vancouver with Carolyn. We'll be staying at her condo in the heart of downtown with Granville Island doubling as our view and our local market place. How lucky am I??!! A holiday to prepare for my holiday :-)
The pressure is really on at work. The deadline for our winter/spring brochure is fast approaching and I have so many programs in a state of "half done" that it will be a miracle if I don't forget to finish something before I leave on the 7th! But....once I'm on that plane....in fact....once I'm in that semi.....it'll be too late to worry about so I won't give it another thought.
Counting the days now...

Well :) I think I've done it!! I've tested this blog and it seems to have worked so now I'll begin to let folks know about the address and it'll be my way to communicate with everyone between now and January 20th when I return. By that time - I'm pretty sure it will be full force winter here - sorry but I won't miss it all that much and I'm sure there will still be a little of the white stuff for me to shovel when I get home. I'll keep in practice shovelling sand or something :)
Till next time,

Less than a month till departure day now. The time seems to be flying by! I only have one weekend at home between now and November 7th when I leave.
Work is super busy too. Am sure it will all get done - it always seems to but the pressure is on as there is a lot to do and not a lot of days to get it all done.
